Shane Gillis Takes Thinly-Veiled Dig at Chelsea Handler’s Criticism: ‘I’m Glad She’s Capitalizing’
Shane Gillis didn’t seem bothered by Chelsea Handler‘s recent comments calling him “racist” for the jokes he made at Kevin Hart‘s roast earlier this month.
“This is a big moment for Chelsea. I am glad she’s capitalizing,” Gillis, 38, told In Touch in a statement on Wednesday, May 20. “Good for her. We’re all rooting for her. Anyway come see me July 17 at the football stadium in Philly.”
The Tires star’s statement came just hours after Handler, 51, slammed him and fellow comedian Tony Hinchcliffe for their remarks at Hart’s roast.

As In Touch previously reported, Handler spoke out about her feelings during a Wednesday appearance on the Funny Knowing You podcast. While talking to host Deon Cole, the Chelsea Lately alum claimed that some of Gillis’ ex-girlfriends had messaged her about their experiences dating him.
“It’s just everything we know — that they’re racist, that they’re bigots, that they’re sexist, you know, that they think they’re like invincible,” Handler said when Cole, 54, asked her to tell him what the messages allegedly revealed.

She also addressed Gillis joking that “Kevin is so short, you’d have to lynch him from a bonsai tree.”
“I mean, it was ick. It was gross,” she explained. “I don’t find those jokes to be funny. Jokes about lynching Black people—lynching is not a joke. That’s worse than rape. Like you’re not joking about rape, are you? Are you saying I’m going to go rape you? You know, you can’t do that, but you can say lynching.”
Handler, who also took the stage during the Netflix special on May 10, concluded, “There was so much disgustingness, that I knew it was gonna be a gross vibe that I would be able to elevate it, no problem.”
