Hansi Flick was moved to tears as Barca won La Liga amidst the grief of losing his father.
Coach Hansi Flick gave a touching speech after Barca beat Real Madrid 2-0 to win the 2025/26 La Liga title, just hours after his father passed away.
Barcelona easily defeated Real Madrid 2-0 in El Clásico at home at Camp Nou in round 35 of La Liga.
This result means that Barca officially won the La Liga title three rounds early – their second consecutive title under Hansi Flick, and the 29th in the club’s history.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for Barca very early with a stunning free-kick. For the first time since Leo Messi in 2012, a “Blaugrana” player scored from a free-kick in “El Clasico”.
Shortly afterwards, Dani Olmo backheeled the ball to Ferran Torres, who converted a shot to beat Thibaut Courtois from near the penalty spot.
Real Madrid rarely posed a threat to Barca’s goal. The visitors played sluggishly and had virtually no noteworthy chances, apart from Gonzalo Garcia’s shot that went wide of the net.
This victory was all the more meaningful for Hansi Flick , as he received news of his father’s death just hours before the match.
Hansi Flick chose to stay and lead the team in El Clásico and win La Liga, before returning home to mourn his father.
“I will never forget this , ” Hansi Flick said emotionally after the 2-0 victory over Real Madrid. “Today was a difficult day, my father passed away, but the whole team was amazing here . ”
The German strategist continued: “The whole team gave their all and I am very proud. It was extraordinary. Everyone could see that. It wasn’t easy at all.”
Everyone thought we could win, but Real Madrid are a big team. We played well and defended very well too.”
Pedri, the Man of the Match in El Clásico, dedicated the award to the Barca coach. “We wanted to win right here, in a ‘El Clásico ‘ of a lifetime. That would be special, because it has never happened before in history.”
We celebrated with family, friends, and fans. This isn’t something you get to experience every day. We wanted to do this for Flick, the title sent to the heavens, dedicated to his father. It’s all for him.”
De Jong also paid tribute to Hansi: “Flick is very important; he has a very clear vision. On the pitch, he gives us a lot of freedom to showcase our qualities.”
