Brazil: medical staff announce 2 to 3 weeks out for Neymar

Neymar’s return to the Brazilian national team will have to wait a little longer. While initial reports suggested a simple edema, medical examinations conducted at Granja Comary have ultimately revealed a grade 2 muscle injury in the Brazilian striker’s calf.

The Seleção’s medical staff confirmed the news on Thursday through an official statement. The national team doctor explained that Neymar underwent several additional tests, including an MRI, to precisely identify the nature of the injury.

“Neymar underwent all the medical examinations, and an MRI scan identified a grade 2 muscle injury in the calf, not just a simple edema,” stated the Brazilian national team doctor.

An absence estimated at several weeks

According to the medical staff, the former Paris Saint-Germain player is currently following an intensive treatment program in an effort to speed up his recovery. Nevertheless, the estimated duration of his absence is between two and three weeks.

“The athlete is currently receiving intensive treatment. Our expectation is that he will be cleared to return in two to three weeks,” the doctor added.

This news is yet another setback for Neymar, who has been frequently hampered by injuries in recent seasons. At 34, the playmaker continues to endure spells on the sidelines as Brazil prepares for its upcoming international fixtures.

Brazil remains cautious

Despite this initial diagnosis, the Brazilian medical staff prefers to remain cautious regarding the player’s exact return date. Doctors have indicated that the injury’s progression will be evaluated daily before Neymar rejoins full team training.

“Today, we have the ability to assess the treatment progress day by day,” the Seleção’s doctor specified.

Brazil now hopes to have their number 10 back in the best possible shape to avoid any risk of relapse.
