Taylor Swift, Lainey Wilson go viral with surprise performance of ‘Love Story’

The pair surprised attendees of the annual Sports Illustrated and Tight End University’s Tight Ends & Friends Concert Presented by Reese’s

Last night (Tues, June 23rd), Taylor Swift and Lainey Wilson shocked fans by teaming up for an unannounced duet of Swift’s 2008 mega-hit “Love Story.” The viral performance served as the grand finale to the Sports Illustrated and Tight End University’s Tight Ends & Friends Concert Presented by Reese’s at The Pinnacle in Nashville. The concert is the opening-night celebration for Tight End University (TEU)—the annual NFL training summit co-founded by Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce, alongside fellow NFL stars George Kittle and Greg Olsen.

Midway through her headlining set, Wilson teased the crowd, saying, “I don’t think y’all are ready for what’s about to happen.” She then brought out Swift, introducing her as someone who is “just as kind as she is talented.”

Taking the stage in an asymmetrical black dress with a ruffled silver hem, Swift turned to the band and asked, “Do you wanna do ‘Love Story’?” She then playfully addressed the crowd, noting that the song choice was a special request from a “very special tight end.” While the crowd naturally assumed she meant her fiancé, Travis Kelce, Swift subverted expectations with a grin, adding: “And that tight end… is named George Kittle,” prompting massive laughs and cheers from the audience.

The performance marked Swift’s first live rendition of “Love Story” since wrapping up her historic Eras Tour. Swift sang the opening verse, and Wilson took over the second verse, blending her signature country twang with Swift’s classic pop-country melody. The two powerhouses came together to harmonize on the choruses.

The biggest viral moment of the night came during the song’s famous bridge. As Swift sang the iconic line, “He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring,” she deliberately held up her left hand to flash her engagement ring under the stage lights—a direct nod to her upcoming wedding to Kelce. The gesture drove the crowd into an absolute frenzy.

The duet was a full-circle moment for both artists. Years prior, a 14-year-old Lainey Wilson and her family were among just a handful of people watching a then-unknown Taylor Swift perform on a small stage at CMA Fest. Fast forward to 2026, and the two shared the stage as global superstars. This also marked Swift’s second year in a row crashing the TEU concert series; at the 2025 event, she surprised attendees with an acoustic version of “Shake It Off.”

Tight End University brought together some of country music’s biggest stars, NFL standouts, celebrities, and surprise guests for one of the most talked-about nights of the summer. Dan + Shay, Chase Rice, Jon Pardi, Nate Smith, Mitchell Tenpenny, Brett Young, and The War and Treaty also performed throughout the night.
