‘Scary Movie 6’ Breaks Franchise Records With $105 Million USD Global Opening Weekend

The Wayans family’s grand horror-comedy comeback dominates the global box office.

Miramax and Paramount Pictures‘ Scary Movie 6 has officially shattered franchise records by pulling in a massive $105 million USD global opening weekend. The highly anticipated horror-comedy revival easily secured the No. 1 spot at the box office, marking a triumphant cinematic return for the original creative team.

Produced on a modest $30 million USD budget, the sixth installment generated $55 million USD domestically from 3,490 locations, eclipsing the previous franchise domestic record of $49.7 million USD set by Scary Movie 4 in 2006. Internationally, the film added $50.5 million USD across 53 markets, representing a staggering 75% increase over the franchise’s prior international best. Top-performing global territories included the United Kingdom and Germany at $5.5 million USD each, followed closely by Brazil at $5.1 million USD and France at $3.2 million USD.

The massive financial rollout marks the first time the core creative team has reunited since 2001’s Scary Movie 2. Marlon, Shawn, Keenen Ivory, and Craig Wayans returned to write and produce, while Marlon and Shawn reprised their iconic roles alongside legacy stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall. Fueled by a viral promotional campaign and a launch trailer that garnered over 410 million views in its first week, the record-setting opening weekend has already reignited discussions regarding other potential legacy sequels.

Scary Movie 6 is currently playing in theaters worldwide.
