RASH DASH Marcus Rashford out to rescue Man Utd career as he lands in Dublin and ‘gets new squad number’ after Carrington stop-off

MARCUS RASHFORD is back at Manchester United and wants to revive his Old Trafford career.

Rashford returned to United’s Carrington training complex early on Sunday morning and flew to Dublin at 11am with teammates to link up with the squad at their training camp.

Sources say the 28-year-old is committed to making a fist of it back at his boyhood club despite a turbulent three years.

Rashford has not played for United since December 12 2024 after then coach Ruben Amorim took exception to his attitude.

But Rashford, who did not have a squad number after Matheus Cunha was handed the ‘10’ last year, could make his return for United against Amorim’s AC Milan in Poland on Saturday.

But it is reported that Rashford will wear the number 14 shirt if he is still at Old Trafford when the season starts.

United coach Michael Carrick was captain when Rashford made his debut for the club in February 2016 and the pair worked together for nearly six years after Carrick joined the coaching staff.

Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona and had publicly declared his wish to remain in Catalonia permanently.

But Barca passed on the option to buy Rashford for £26million and signed his fellow England left winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle for £69m.

Rashford is United’s highest earner on £325,000 a week and has two years remaining on his contract.

The England international’s wages have effectively prevented a move so far this summer, although a number of elite clubs remain in the market for a winger.

United have scrapped plans for open training at Carton House in Maynooth amid suspicions that Rashford’s return has influenced the change in plans.

Rashford is unlikely to be involved in the Wednesday night friendly with Leeds United at Croke Park as he will only have had a handful of training sessions.

Since Rashford signed a five-year contract with United in July 2023, he has only scored 15 goals for the club and also crossed former manager Erik ten Hag on two occasions.

Ten Hag branded it “unacceptable” of Rashford to have attended a birthday party hours after the October 2023 Manchester derby defeat.

Rashford was also dropped for the FA Cup fourth round tie at Newport County in January 2024 after a boozy midweek jaunt to Belfast.
