Mohamed Salah has landed in Trabzon to complete a surprise free transfer to Trabzonspor, and he received a rapturous welcome.
The Egyptian forward earlier arrived on a private jet and was greeted by hundreds of fans at Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport before travelling to Trabzon for his official unveiling.
Salah said: “Trabzon, are you ready? I can hear you. See you very soon.” He also used the club’s famous motto “Bize Her Yer Trabzon.”
At the later welcome event he told the crowd: “I honestly can’t even remember if I’ve seen something like this before. I’m very happy to be here. There are 25,000 fans, it’s unbelievable!”
Salah left Liverpool in the summer after nine seasons and 257 goals, mutually terminating the final year of his contract following a difficult campaign.
Talks with Beşiktaş had stalled, allowing Trabzonspor to secure one of the most high-profile free-agent deals of the window.
The club finished third in the Süper Lig last season and view the signing as the biggest in their history.
The 34-year-old has signed a two-year contract reportedly worth €17 million net per season, making him the highest-paid player in Turkish football.
He arrived wearing the No. 61 shirt — a symbolic nod to Trabzon’s provincial code — though he is expected to choose a conventional squad number later.
Fans treated the arrival like a festival, with large crowds gathering for both the airport reception and the unveiling.
Shirt and season-ticket sales have already surged.
For a player of Salah’s global stature to choose the Black Sea club has been widely described as a major coup and an unexpected late-career chapter after his long and successful spell at Anfield.
