Liverpol young fan goes crazy as Rio Ngumoha gifts him match-winning shirt after Wrexham pre-season clash
Rio Ngumoha created a special moment for one young Liverpool fan after the final whistle of the Reds’ pre-season victory over Wrexham.
The teenager signed his own match shirt and handed it to a supporter who had brought a cardboard sign asking: “Rio, can I please get your shirt?”
The gesture made the moment even more memorable because it was the same shirt Ngumoha wore while scoring Liverpool’s winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Wrexham at Yankee Stadium.
The young winger produced the decisive moment in New York, with his second-half strike taking a deflection before finding the back of the net and giving Andoni Iraola his second win as Liverpool head coach this summer.
Ngumoha’s goal secured another positive result as the Reds continue preparations for the new season, but his actions after the match showed his growing connection with supporters.
The 17-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the last year after breaking into Liverpool’s first team during the 2025/26 campaign.
Ngumoha made 29 senior appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
His biggest moment came on his Premier League debut, when he scored a dramatic 100th-minute winner against Newcastle United in a thrilling 3-2 victory.
His impressive performances earned him the Home Grown Debutant of the Season award and Scholar of the Year recognition, while he also gained experience in the Champions League and EFL Cup.
The winger’s rapid progress also caught the attention of England, with Ngumoha included in the national team’s pre-World Cup camp before making his senior debut on June 6, 2026, in a 1-0 friendly win over New Zealand.
He became the fifth-youngest player in England history to receive a senior cap and was named Player of the Match.
