Liverpool stars Kostas Tsimikas and Dominik Szoboszlai were filmed in a heated exchange following the Reds’ 1-0 win over Wrexham in a friendly in New York earlier this week.
Footage posted on social media shows the pair, plus Curtis Jones, talking as they walk around the pitch to applaud the fans inside Yankee Stadium following the game that was decided by a single Rio Ngumoha goal in the second half. Tsimikas dropped the captain’s armband on the floor at one stage, before Szoboszlai and Jones continued speaking animatedly.
On Instagram, Jones later posted a series of pictures from the Wrexham game. Tsimikas was among those to respond to it, posting a heart emoji in the comments.
I think now a couple of guys left and maybe we are not the oldest in the team, but we have been here for a long time,” Szoboszlai said in a press conference on Thursday.
“Flo (Wirtz) is the same example, Ryan (Gravenberch) is the same example, Macca if he comes back, Curtis, Alex (Isak), obviously Virgil (van Dijk), Joe (Gomez), Ali (Alisson Becker)… we are all in the same boat.
“We want the best for the club and for each other. That means we have a captain in Virgil and we will follow him everywhere, what he and the gaffer are saying.

“I think I can talk from everyone’s side, we want to be successful this season. And it’s a long-term, because we have a new manager and the team has been changed. In the long term, I think it will work out.”
Liverpool is yet to name its new vice-captain following the departures of Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah. Szoboszlai was the skipper at kick-off during the Wrexham clash.
“We will address it [later],” Iraola said at the start of pre-season. “I don’t have all the squad and not seen them face to face.
“But I always say you don’t need an armband to be a leader, a captain. I find a lot of captains and leaders without armbands.
“You can lead a team or an important player not just because you have [an armband]. We need as many as we can [get]. In terms of the decisions we take, a lot of players [will be looked at].”
