Jurgen Klopp: ‘I wanted to bring Konrad Laimer to Liverpool’
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he once wanted to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Konrad Laimer during his time at Anfield.
Speaking as a pundit for MagentaTV ahead of the World Cup match between Austria and Argentina, Klopp admitted that the Austrian international was high on his transfer wishlist.
“Regarding Laimer, I can say this: he would have played as a number six for me. I wanted to bring him to Liverpool as a number six. But then he went to Bayern,” Klopp said.
Back in 2022, while Laimer was still at RB Leipzig, he was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League. Klopp, who managed Liverpool from 2015 to 2024, was looking to strengthen his midfield and reportedly viewed the Austrian as an ideal fit for the role.
However, Laimer ultimately chose to join Bayern Munich on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, turning down the opportunity to move to England
