Fabolous sat down with DJ Drama recently for an interview on his “Gangsta Grillz” mixtape.
Drama asked Fab what he considers to be the greatest mixtape run of all time and Fab had no doubts:
“Lil Wayne. Wayne’s ‘Dedication’ series it’s insane he went alien mode he told the whole world ‘I’m not bling bling Weezy anymore’ he was really a Martian”

That quote is praising Lil Wayne‘s legendary mixtape era, especially his Dedication series with DJ Drama.
When Fabolous says:
“He went alien mode… he was really a Martian.”
he means that Lil Wayne reached a level of rapping that felt almost superhuman. Around the mid-to-late 2000s, Wayne reinvented himself with relentless mixtape releases, freestyling over popular beats and delivering punchlines, wordplay, and flow that many fans felt no one else could match.
The “Martian” reference also ties into Wayne’s own persona. He frequently called himself a Martian in lyrics and interviews, emphasizing that he was on a different level creatively. One of his most famous lines is:
“Weezy F. Baby and the F is for phenomenal…”
and throughout that era he leaned heavily into the “I’m not from this planet” metaphor.
Fabolous is also referring to the shift away from Wayne’s earlier “bling bling” image from his Cash Money Records days. During the Dedication and Da Drought mixtape runs, Wayne became known primarily for his lyrical dominance rather than his flashy image.
Many hip-hop fans consider Wayne’s mixtape streak—including Dedication 2, Da Drought 3, and No Ceilings—to be one of the greatest mixtape runs in rap history, which is exactly what Fabolous was highlighting.
