Dominik Szoboszlai “would love to stay” at Liverpool – but future “not in my hands”
Dominik Szoboszlai has handed Liverpool a boost by saying he would “love” to stay at the club beyond 2028, but admits the situation is out of his hands.
The Hungarian has been comfortably the Reds’ best player this season, producing more consistency and quality than anyone else.
Szoboszlai is a huge figure for Liverpool, but there will be concerns about some of Europe’s other big clubs eyeing moves for him.
Speaking to reporters, with quotes provided by the Independent, the 25-year-old provided a key update regarding his future.

“I would love to (stay),” Szoboszlai, whose current contract runs until 2028, said.
“I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds.
“Let’s see what happens, hopefully everyone will be happy at the end.
“It’s not in my hands. There is no progression, but if the right offer comes, then let’s see.”

Szoboszlai then added: “I am the type of guy who it is never enough for me, I can always be better and better, so there is no limit up there.
“I would like to get as many goals as I can, as many assists and win as many trophies as possible. That’s my plan.
“That’s how I grew up and that’s how I want to keep going.”
Could Szoboszlai be Liverpool’s next captain?

Tying down Szoboszlai to a contract extension has to be considered priority business for Liverpool, given his status as one of the first names on the team sheet.
The midfielder’s peak years should still be ahead of him, and he stands out as one of the leading options to be Virgil van Dijk‘s successor as captain.
He is already the skipper for Hungary, showcasing his leadership from a young age, and he has come to the fore so often for Liverpool this season, scoring eight goals in all competitions – equalling his season-best at the club.
There will be some concern from Reds fans that no progress has been made over a new deal, but Szoboszlai has made it clear how happy he is.
It’s now a case of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes giving him what he deserves – an improved contract that highlights his importance.
Losing Szoboszlai at this point in his career would be a grave error by Liverpool, and he has to be seen as a priceless player for the next five or six years.
