Someone once said that you only know if someone truly loves you when you show them the darkest side of your life. David was about to put that to the test.
One Friday afternoon after work, David unexpectedly invited Tara to a special place. They had known each other for seven months, through shared lunches, after-work conversations, and quiet mutual affection.
After nearly twenty minutes of walking, they arrived at a poor working-class neighborhood. David opened the door to a small, dilapidated room with a rusty tin roof, cracked walls, and almost no furniture.
He looked at Tara and softly said,
“Welcome to my home.”
Tara was speechless. She didn’t look at him with disdain or pity. After a moment of silence, she asked,
“How long have you lived here?”
David replied,
“Three years.”
He confessed that he had never told her because he was afraid. Previously, whenever a girl learned of his circumstances, they would leave without a word. He didn’t want to lose Tara.
Tara gently sat down beside him and said,
“I don’t love the address where you live. I love the way you listen to me, the way you always respect me and remember every little thing I’ve told you. This room hasn’t changed who you are.”
Those words brought David peace for the first time in years.

David’s father was James—a billionaire who owned numerous companies and real estate properties. Three years ago, before handing over his business to his son, James set a condition:

David was forced to leave the mansion, rent that humble room, and work as an ordinary employee in his father’s company without anyone knowing his true identity.
