50 Cent Buys Rights To ‘Paid In Full’, Co-Executive Producing Series With Cam’ron
50 Cent is a legend in music and screenplays, and his latest move may be his biggest yet. The 50-year-old artist recently purchased the rights to Paid In Full and is adapting the film into a television series with a very special helping hand.
The Queens rapper announced the power move, pun intended, via Instagram. “I now have the rights to PAID IN FULL, im developing it into a premium Tv show,” he wrote in the post’s caption. “if you like God Father of Harlem your gonna love this.”
The television series will be co-executive produced by Cam’ron, who played Rico in the classic 2002 film. He added, “Cam set to Executive produce along side me, if you want in get at him I’m out of the country.” He shared the original film poster, along with screenshots of Ace (Wood Harris), Rico, and Mitch (Mekhi Phifer). The “Hey Ma” rapper was a bit more animated in his announcement.
“So we’ve been talking about this for a few months now, and it’s almost time,” he wrote on Instagram. “Thx @50cent for the opportunity my ni**a. We gonna burn this sh*t down!!” The timing for this revelation could be intentional or purely coincidental. Damon Dash, one of the 2002 film’s producers, has been going back and forth with Cam for the last few weeks and also recently filed for bankruptcy.
Nonetheless, in typical Dame fashion, he jabbed at the Harlem rapper in his reaction to the announcement. “Cam just made a post, major announcement. I wanna congratulate him for making 50 his new boss,” he said in a video. “So congratulations Cam, 50 is now your new boss and you’re proud of it. Congratulations my ni**a,” he added with a shrug and sarcastic point towards the camera.
If we know anything about this trio, there is likely only more jaw-jacking on the way; however, the Hip-Hop community as a whole can be happy to see one of its favorite films have new life breathed into it over 20 years after its initial release.
